Hawaii: New Rules

Buy Crypto Online, Pay Cash In-Store

Hawaii's new rules change how crypto kiosks work starting October 1, 2026. Hilt has a new way to buy crypto with cash that keeps everything you loved about your local Hilt kiosk.

What Changed (and Why)

Starting October 1, 2026, Hawaii law (Act 224) no longer allows crypto kiosks to accept cash deposits for cryptocurrency purchases. It's a consumer-protection measure aimed at reducing fraud at unattended machines. The good news: the law applies to kiosks and ATMs — not to a purchase you start online and complete in person with a Hilt cashier. That's our new process, and it's built to give you the same cash-based buying experience with an extra layer of verification and support.

How It Works

  1. Start online. Choose your cryptocurrency (BTC, ETH, LTC, or stablecoins), enter your wallet address, and review the rate and total.

  2. Head to a participating Hilt location. Bring the cash for your purchase and a valid government-issued ID.

  3. Pay the cashier. Hand your cash to a Hilt team member — not a machine.

  4. We confirm and send. Once your payment and ID are verified, Hilt confirms your order and your crypto is sent to the wallet address you provided.

Staying Safe

Before You Visit - Quick Checklist

  • Hilt will never ask for your wallet's seed phrase, recovery words, or private keys. Anyone who does is trying to steal your funds.

  • If someone is coaching you over the phone to buy crypto — a "support agent," a romance interest, a "investment manager," or anyone claiming you need to act fast — stop and call us at 702-780-9096 first. These are common scam patterns.

  • Crypto purchases are final once confirmed. Take your time and ask the cashier any questions before you pay.

  • You've started your buy online and have your order ready

  • You're paying with your own cash (Hilt cannot accept payment from a third party)

  • You have a valid government-issued ID

  • You're using a wallet you own and control

  • You've double-checked your wallet address — crypto transactions cannot be reversed

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I just feed cash into the kiosk anymore?
Hawaii's Act 224, effective October 1, 2026, makes it unlawful to operate a crypto kiosk that accepts cash for crypto. Our new in-store cash process is a compliant way to keep buying with cash at Hilt.

Can I still sell crypto for cash?
Yes. The law only affects cash deposits for buying crypto. Cash-out (converting crypto you already own into cash) is unaffected.

Which cryptocurrencies can I buy?
BTC, ETH, LTC, and select stablecoins — the same as before.

Do I need to bring cash, or can I pay by card?
This in-store process is for cash payments. Start your order online, then bring the exact cash amount to the counter.

What if I entered the wrong wallet address?
Please verify your address carefully before completing your order. Cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible, and Hilt cannot recover funds sent to the wrong address.

Is my information secure?
Hilt collects only what's required to verify your identity and complete your transaction, in line with applicable law. We never ask for seed phrases or private keys.
